Better Surgery, Better Vision

There have been good results and they are well-documented, but like any surgical operations it can have side effects. It’s important to keep them in mind.

Infection and delayed healing of Eye Surgery; lesser number from the total headcount of people can get an infection after PRK or LASIK. It is an added discomfort and takes a longer healing period.

Under correction or overcorrection of Toronto Eye Surgery; One cannot infer how good the surgery was performed until the eye has recovered properly. One may need glasses or contacts for longer period and if the vision does not improve, one may go for a second laser surgery, called laser enhancement.

Better surgery leads to better vision

Excess corneal haze; It is normal healing process after a refractive surgery has no effect on the vision. It can only be seen after an eye examination. Sometimes it can affect your vision, but generally is less common with LASIK than PRK.

Regression; In some surgical procedure it has been seen effects does not last long and go away over a period of months or years. So in that case one may have to go for a second surgery to improve the vision.

Halo effect; This happens when the untreated area outside the cornea produces a second image in dim light and can make it hard to drive or see in dark places. It can happen after LASIK or PRK. The surgeon uses wave front technology, which creates a three dimensional version of the eye.

Flap damage or loss; One of the major drawbacks of LASIK is that leaves a hinged flap on the center of the cornea, which need to be repositioned during the first few days after Toronto eye surgery or after a severe direct injury to your eye.

Complications

Complications include:

  • Night glare
  • Ripples
  • Infection
  • Regression of correction
  • Under correction
  • Loss of visual acuity
  • Dry eyes
  • Need for retreatment
  • Infiltration of the cornea
  • Difficulty in fitting contact lenses for additional correction

The complication is rare after surgery that is around 10%.

If you are a good candidate and having realistic expectations then choose the right surgeon who can assist you with good Toronto eye surgery. If you are following the same procedure then there will be no chance of complication and you will keep well after surgery.
