August 16, 2016 By Charles Michel Leave a Comment

Skin tags, also known as achrochordons have several possible causes to develop. They are basically a benign skin growth which leads to forming the tissues on the epidermal layer. Skin tags are loose skin flaps connected by a narrow stalk. They can be of the same color as your skin or they can be little darker or brown. If you find that your skin tag has changed the color, then you should consult a dermatologist to be on the safer side.

Skin tags are absolutely harmless. Weight gain is considered to be direct cause of formation of skin tags. Another common cause can be hormonal changes, which is also one of the fallouts of obesity. Pregnant women are more at risk to develop skin tags because their weight increases dramatically during this time. However, the skin tags are likely to disappear once the hormones normalize. If they do not go away, you have Private dermatologist services in London where you can get them removed.

Skin Tags And Weight Gain: Let’s understand why you may have skin tags due to weight gain. Obesity leads to develop excess amount of adipose tissues which leads to fat. The stored fat and the fatty deposits not only increase your weight, waistline or make you more bulkier, but the stored fat causes impacting substantial hormonal changes in the body.

The first impact of obesity is on metabolism. Every body’s function is regulated by the hormones. Whether it is blood pressure or diabetes, metabolism or blood sugar levels, everything depends on at least one hormone. So, weight gain drastically reduces the metabolic rate.

Although having an increased appetite, your metabolism can actually get reduced to an extent. The result is it will take more time to digest the food and absorb the energy. Additionally, it takes more time to use that energy as obesity often leads to inactive and sedentary lifestyle.

Having more sugar and insulin in your blood may cause other hormonal functions also and you would have more fat in the blood. Fat is believed to be the main cause of the skin tags. If you meet an obese person or an individual who’s gained a lot of weight and hasn’t managed to lose, it may be observed that they develop skin tags around the neck, buttocks, in their armpits and groin folds. These are the areas where the secretary glands are located.

Moreover, experts believe that people carrying extra weight have more skin folds and the rubbing of skin is more prevalent in the obese. As people who are overweight often sweat more and this leads to irritation and as there is more friction in these areas, there are more chances to grow skin tags.

Identifying Skin tags Caused Due to Weight gain: It’s an embarrassing situation when we find we have gained weight and the waistline makes it difficult to put up your favourite jeans. Most of us, at some or other point of time, we all face this type of situation. Obesity drives in before we become obvious through weight gain. Skin tags reflect the hormonal imbalance situation that needs to be managed.

The bottom line is that skin tags are a result of excess body weight and obesity is the ringing alarm for several other health ailments like diabetes, metabolic syndromes and hormonal problems.

Hormonal Imbalances Due To Weight Gain: Weight gain not only affects insulin resistance, blood pressure and blood sugar, it also affects estrogen levels in men and testosterone levels in women. Normally, men have testosterone (male hormones) and the females have estrogen (female hormones) and weight gain can actually turn up to hormonal imbalance.

Obese men tend to experience higher secretion of estrogen which leads to growth of breasts and large bellies. And, women having more testosterone may lead facial hair, polycystic ovaries, infertility, male pattern baldness or hair loss.

There are many treatments to recover form hormonal imbalances and deficiencies but the best prevention is to put off the extra weight so that you don’t suffer form diabetes, hormonal imbalances, develop skin tags and all the health issues that follow potential anomalies in hormonal secretions.
