Welsh Pork Boosts Nutritional Health

September 3, 2016 By Charles Michel Leave a Comment

If you wish to follow a healthy and well-balanced diet, then pork should be added to your menu plan. A lean red meat, such as pork, features a high nutrient density. Nutrient density refers to the amount and variety of nutrients found in a given food. Foods that are nutrient-dense feature various vitamins and minerals within its composition, with each one coming in a small amount.

Any menus that include Welsh pork typically supply all of a person’s daily nutritional needs. That is because pork is a major source of protein and also contains essential amino acids. Not only is protein essential for general maintenance and good health, it also assists in natural body growth and repairs.

A Lean and Healthy Alternative

If you are concerned about the amount of fat that is contained in pork, then you may be surprised that pork is truly a lean meat. Therefore, pork can be used in regular meal planning without fear of consuming too many fatty compounds. Fully trimmed lean cuts of pork only contain about 4% fat. So, where your health is concerned, pork is a healthy alternative to many more strenuous types of meat.

Pork represents a rich source of B vitamins, including the vitamins B3, B6, and B12. These particular compounds are not found in foods that originate from plants. B vitamins are necessary for healthy nervous system function, and are also linked to general vitality. So, any Welsh pork recipes you use in meal preparation will definitely be a boon for your family’s overall health.

An Essential Food

When you break down the nutritional elements in pork, you can see why this meat is considered to be an essential food. For example, the iron found in pork aids in red blood cell production whilst the pork’s protein is used for bodily growth and repair. Zinc, on the other hand, keeps the immune system healthy by encouraging white blood cell activity.

Thiamine, or vitamin B1, serves to aid in effective replenishment by releasing the energy found in carbohydrates. Because the B vitamin is water-soluble, you certainly need to eat foods that contain this nutrient to experience the benefits.

Riboflavin, which is another name for vitamin B2, is needed for healthy skin and general eye health. As already noted, it is also essential for promoting healthy nervous system function. The vitamin is also needed for releasing energy into the bloodstream.

Niacin, which is the other name for vitamin B3, helps with nervous system functionality, the skin’s healthy appearance, and general vitality within the body.

Vitamin B6

Another ingredient in pork is vitamin B6, which plays an essential role in the formation of haemoglobin in the blood. Haemoglobin is important for the transportation of oxygen through the bloodstream. The vitamin also permits the body to use and store energy from carbohydrates and proteins.

Vitamin B12, also found in pork, helps in the manufacturing of red blood cells and in the maintenance of a healthy nervous system. It also aids in the release of energy from the food that people eat. One other nutrient, coined by the term selenium, contains antioxidant properties. Selenium supports immune system health and aids in the prevention of cell and tissue damage.

As you can see, the nutrient density of pork makes it possible for you to enjoy a number of health benefits from eating this meat. This is why lean meat is a popular addition in many of today’s recipes.
